A RomanSon — also written romanson, roman-son or roman son — is a novel whose chapters are illustrated by sounds, songs or pieces of music. These sound works are not meant to retell the plot literally; they extend its atmosphere, emotions and imaginative world.
Résonance is the first novel presented as a RomanSon, a term coined by Pab San. Each of its twenty-seven chapters is accompanied by a track and an original music video. These sound and visual works grow out of the chapter and open another space for listening and seeing, without replacing the novel.
A RomanSon does not voice the text like an audiobook. Nor does its music narrate the story scene by scene: it accompanies the novel itself, as an echo rather than a retelling.
RomanSon is the term coined by Pab San for this literary, musical and visual form. The spellings romanson, roman-son and roman son refer to the same concept and, here, to Résonance.
